A hub of entertainment, a Mecca for gambling, a sun lovers paradise, welcome to the bright lights of Las Vegas. Commonly known as Sin City, Las Vegas is a city of desire, limitless possibility and convenience.

Viva Las Vegas

‘Bright light city gonna set my soul’

‘Gonna set my soul on fire’

‘Got a whole lot of money that’s ready to burn’

‘So get those stakes up higher’

Written in 1963 ‘Viva Las Vegas’ by Doc Pomus and famously performed by Elvis Presley in the film ‘Viva Las Vegas’, is  as true today as it was over 50 years ago. What was once a barren desert, became ‘the destination’ to openly display your wealth as well as risk your life’s earnings on the numerous games tables and slots machine.

Vegas has undergone a transformation from a rather sordid and infamous town to a buzzing and vibrant city, attracting over 42 million visitors a year. Hotels like the Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn and Caesars Palace are renowned properties each with their own unique twist. Some defy the conventional by adding a rollercoaster to the inside of the hotel, some provide nightly fountains displays, others provide Gondola rides akin to those in Venice.

Fancy some entertainment?

Cirque Du Soleil set up its first permanent performance in Las Vegas, back in 1993. Over 20 years later ‘Mystère’ is still wowing audiences from around the world, although now it has another 6 shows, within the Cirque family to compete with. Whether it’s a celebration of the life and music of the iconic Michael Jackson, the water based ‘O’ with displays of earth defying stunts and acrobatics, to ‘KA’ which theatrically performs the coming of age of a young man and woman and their relationship with ‘the fire’; Cirque shows promise to awaken your every sense.

Our recommendation is ‘LOVE’ which is a re-imagining of the music of The Beatles. Having run for more than a decade, the music of the Liverpudlian band The Beatles comes to life on stage. Hits like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Lady Madonna, Revolution and Drive My Car among others are interwoven with a story about British pop culture. It’s not purely a celebration of the one of the most famous and influential bands in the world, it’s a celebration of modern British culture.

Anything is possible

Above anything else, Las Vegas provides choice, and lots of it! From hotels, to restaurants, to shopping, and entertainment there is so much on offer in this wild and ever growing city. Those looking for top musicians like J-Lo, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Britney Spears among others need look no further. For some fun in the sun, you can find pool parties at most hotels; some of the best known are Wet Republic at MGM, Tao at Venetian, Rehab at the Hard Rock and Encore Beach Club at the Wynn/Encore complex. The pool party season runs from approximately May through to September.

Las Vegas is not for everyone, but to not visit Vegas would be a missed opportunity to truly experience and appreciate the allure of this unique city.

‘How I wish that there were more’

‘Than the twenty-four hours in the day’

‘’cause even if there were forty more’

‘I wouldn’t sleep a minute away’

‘Oh, there’s black jack and poker and the roulette wheel’

‘A fortune won and lost on ev’ry deal’

‘All you need’s a strong heart and a nerve of steel’

Viva Las Vegas, viva Las Vegas
